Rivers Women Promote Skills Acquisition for Economic Empowerment

Women under the umbrella of Rivers Women Unite for SIM (RWUS) have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting economic empowerment through vocational skills acquisition aimed at improving the livelihoods of women across Rivers State.

In a statement signed by the Communication Officer of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, Comrade Glory Sunday, and made available to newsmen after their meeting held today at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt.

She emphasised the importance of equipping women with practical skills to navigate the country’s current economic challenges.

Speaking on the theme, “Praise, Purpose and Productivity: Giving Thanks, Gaining Skills, Building Futures,” the women said the initiative is designed to encourage financial independence by providing participants with marketable vocational skills capable of creating sustainable sources of income.

They noted that empowering women economically not only strengthens families but also contributes to the overall development of society, describing women as catalysts for growth who can transform available opportunities into lasting success.

The group urged members to remain committed and disciplined throughout the training programme, stressing that dedication, consistency and hard work are essential for building successful businesses and securing brighter futures.

As part of the meeting, participants received a practical demonstration on the production of soap, bleach and disinfectants, which forms part of the vocational training scheduled for the group’s June and July sessions. They added that additional skills acquisition programmes have been lined up for subsequent training exercises.

The women also reaffirmed their continued support for Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, describing him as a leader committed to the welfare, empowerment and advancement of women in the state.
