The Njiko Igbo Forum, an affiliate of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has accused the five South-East governors of working against the presidential ambition of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Peter Obi.
The forum alleged that the governors’ position could undermine the collective political interests of Ndigbo ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Leader of the group, Rev. Dr Okechukwu Christopher Obioha, made the allegations in a statement issued on Thursday.
Obioha singled out Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, accusing him of aligning with his counterparts in the region in opposing Obi’s bid for the presidency.
He described the alleged stance of the governors as unfortunate, arguing that their position would not prevent voters in the South-East from backing Obi at the polls.
According to him, the people of the region remain determined to support the former Anambra State governor, irrespective of the position taken by the five governors.
Obioha further claimed that Obi could secure as much as 98 per cent of votes cast in the South-East in the 2027 presidential election.
The forum’s position comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with Obi emerging as a major political figure in the region and Njiko Igbo Forum repeatedly advocating support for his presidential bid.
The group maintained that political leaders in the South-East should prioritise the interests and aspirations of the people of the region in their decisions concerning the 2027 presidential election.
