Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the state’s ₦1.84 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, describing the development as “a breath of fresh air” and a reflection of improved relations among key stakeholders in the state.
The Governor signed the budget during a brief ceremony at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where he commended the Rivers State House of Assembly for its diligence in scrutinising and passing the appropriation bill.
Fubara also acknowledged the role of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, in facilitating the meeting and engagements that eventually led to the consideration, passage and signing of the budget.
He said the significance of the budget went beyond its financial size, stressing that its ultimate purpose was to accelerate development and improve the welfare of Rivers residents.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the “Rivers First” agenda, saying government would remain focused on programmes and projects capable of delivering tangible benefits to the people.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, said the provisions of the appropriation law reflected the Governor’s determination to move the state forward and deliver democratic dividends to the people.
The signing of the 2026 budget marks the commencement of its implementation, with the Governor calling for continued cooperation, cordiality and collective commitment among stakeholders to advance the development of Rivers State.
