Suspected Fake Lawyer Arrested With Forged Court Documents
A man identified as Ugwumba Enyinnaya has reportedly been arrested in Ebonyi State for allegedly impersonating a legal practitioner for 13 years and using forged academic certificates and court documents.
According to information circulating about the alleged incident, items reportedly recovered from the suspect include a lawyer’s wig and gown, forged LL.B and LL.M degree certificates purportedly issued by Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), and allegedly forged court documents.
The documents reportedly include a purported judgment of the High Court of Obiozara, said to have been presided over by Justice Gladson Ugbala; another judgment purportedly issued by the Ebonyi State High Court, attributed to Justice Frank Edem; and a purported court order from the Customary Court of Appeal, Enugu State.
The allegations further claim that Enyinnaya presented himself as a qualified legal practitioner for about 13 years and served as legal adviser to Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State during the period.
However, the circumstances surrounding his reported arrest, the authenticity of the recovered documents, and the claim that he served as a local government legal adviser have not been independently verified.
Efforts to obtain confirmation from the police, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and the relevant judicial authorities would be necessary to establish the facts of the case.
The allegations remain unproven, and the suspect is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless established otherwise by a competent court.
