Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has set a three-month deadline to complete the long-awaited reconstruction of the 16.5km Rumuokurusi-Igbo-Etche Road. This key route, which links Obio/Akpor and Etche LGAs, had been left in a state of disrepair for over 11 years, causing severe hardship for residents and motorists alike.
Governor Fubara, during an inspection of the project site on Monday, expressed his determination to ensure the road is finally restored, emphasizing its vital role in the economic activities of the state. “This road is a lifeline for our people, especially traders who rely on it for access to markets. It’s unacceptable that it has been left in such a deplorable state for over a decade,” he lamented.
He noted the satisfactory pace of work, attributing it to the contractor’s understanding of his administration’s commitment to putting the people first. Despite the challenges posed by the rainy season, Governor Fubara insisted on progress, displaying his resolve to see the road completed on schedule.
“We’re not just fixing a road; we’re restoring hope,” he added. “The people of Rivers State deserve better, and we’re here to make sure they get it. In three months, this road will be back in use, and our people will finally see the change they’ve been waiting for.”
