The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027, pledging to deliver massive votes across the state.

The inauguration, held today at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, attracted the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu; APC governorship candidate, Chief Eric Opah; and other party leaders and stakeholders.

Speaking, Kalu charged the newly inaugurated members to justify the confidence reposed in them through effective mobilisation and electoral results. He said the Tinubu administration was transitioning from economic reforms to an era of prosperity, urging the South East to abandon political sentiments and strategically support the President to attract greater federal presence.

Recalling that Tinubu secured only five per cent of the South East votes in 2023, Kalu urged the region to support his re-election, citing the establishment of the South East Development Commission, strategic appointments and ongoing federal road projects, including the Enugu-Port Harcourt, Enugu-Onitsha, Owerri-Aba and Aba-Ikot Ekpene roads.

He subsequently inaugurated the PCC, urging members to work towards victory for Tinubu and all APC candidates.

The APC governorship candidate, Chief Eric Opah, described the party as a formidable platform capable of winning all elective positions in 2027, pledging his support for the campaign council.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Philip Nto highlighted the Tinubu administration’s major policies, including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms, tax reforms, NELFUND and digital economy development. He also credited Kalu with strengthening the APC and attracting federal institutions and the South East Development Commission to Abia.

Fielding questions from newsmen, Abia South APC chieftain, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, Esq., urged the South East to look beyond political sentiments and embrace strategic engagement with the Federal Government. He said the establishment of the South East Development Commission, federal appointments and ongoing infrastructure projects demonstrated the benefits of political cooperation, urging Abians to support Tinubu’s re-election to consolidate the region’s development and political relevance.

Former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, expressed confidence in Tinubu’s victory, pledging to mobilise support for him and other APC candidates.

Similarly, APC candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District, Chief Emeka Atuma, described Tinubu as a courageous leader whose reforms had increased resources available to states, expressing confidence that Abia Central would deliver massive votes.

The party’s candidate for Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Uzor Azubuike, said Tinubu had demonstrated fairness to the South East through appointments and development initiatives, urging the people to reciprocate with overwhelming votes.

In goodwill messages, Abia North representative, Dr. Maduka Ukaegbu, expressed confidence that the zone would return its political leaders, including Kalu, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Onyejeocha, while urging other senatorial districts to emulate its commitment.

Chief Henry Ikoh, speaking for Abia Central, urged stakeholders to mobilise across their wards and local government areas. Dr. Nyerere Ayim, representing Abia South, recalled the APC’s establishment in the zone in 2013 and expressed confidence in its electoral prospects.

The APC Woman Leader, Deaconess Cecilia Erondu, pledged massive support from women, while youth representative, Chief Okey Gberemako, assured that young people would vote for the party’s candidates and protect their votes.

In a cross-party endorsement, Abia PDP Chairman and Deputy Governorship Candidate, Elder Abraham Amah, declared support for Tinubu’s re-election under the National Rainbow Coalition initiative championed by FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike. He, however, called for equity, fairness and political reciprocity in Abia.

The APC Deputy Chairman in Abia, Hon. Chinedu Ihesiulo, earlier declared the party ready for victory in 2027, commending Kalu for strengthening its unity.

Responding on behalf of the inaugurated PCC, APC State Chairman and Coordinator, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, accepted the responsibility, declaring that the party had overcome its internal divisions and was now united.

He commended Kalu for his reconciliation efforts, insisting that Tinubu deserved re-election. Rejecting projections of 25 per cent votes for the President in Abia, Chukwu pledged to deliver at least 75 per cent through sustained grassroots mobilisation.

He also appealed to Tinubu to fill Abia’s vacant ministerial position in the Federal Executive Council and review the reported replacement of an APC member representing the state on the Federal Character Commission with a non-party member.

The vote of thanks was delivered by former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike, who appreciated party leaders, stakeholders and supporters for their participation.
