7 Killed as Gunmen Attack Imo Communities
Terror struck parts of Imo State early Friday morning as unknown gunmen launched coordinated attacks on several communities, leaving at least seven people dead and many others critically injured.
The affected communities — Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno — are located in Arondizuogu and Ideato North Local Government Areas of the state.
Confirming the incident, the Imo State Police Command, through its spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye, described the attack as “barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable.”
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has deployed tactical units and intelligence operatives to the affected areas to track down the assailants. He also assured residents that the situation is under control and that measures have been taken to prevent further violence.
“The Commissioner led a tactical team for an intense combing operation in the area, and proactive security measures have been activated to ensure peace is restored,” the statement read.
The Imo State Police Command has urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid in the arrest of the perpetrators.
