As part of activities that marked the 2025 World Food Day, the Abia State Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with Ebulu Nigeria Limited held a series of impactful events focused on mechanised farming, agro-product development, and climate-smart innovations aimed at achieving food security and sustainable growth.
This year’s celebration spotlight was on advancements in agricultural mechanisation, especially in the production of fish feed, poultry feed, fertilisers, and flour—key initiatives driving Abia’s renewed push for agribusiness transformation and import substitution.
A major highlight of the event was a visit to commercial tomato farms and a processing plant for locally produced tomato paste—an initiative designed to strengthen the agricultural value chain, minimise post-harvest losses, and enhance value addition through agro-processing.
Speaking on the event, the Managing Director of Ebulu Nigeria Limited, Prince Anthony Azubuike, said the company is leveraging technology and innovation to boost productivity, create jobs, and ensure that Abians have access to affordable and nutritious food.
In line with global climate goals, the programme will also introduce Polonial Stem Cell Trees, a fast-growing species renowned for its high carbon absorption capacity. The trees are expected to aid soil regeneration, reduce carbon emissions, and promote environmental sustainability—aligning with Nigeria’s commitment to carbon neutrality.
The initiative underscores a holistic approach to agriculture that integrates food production, environmental protection, and rural economic development.
Stakeholders including farmers, agribusiness investors, researchers, and policymakers are expected to participate in the celebration, which reaffirms the Abia State Government’s commitment to transforming agriculture into a sustainable, technology-driven, and commercially viable sector.
As Nigeria continues to confront the challenges of food insecurity, climate change, and inflation, Abia’s collaborative efforts signal a forward-looking step towards building a resilient agricultural system capable of feeding the nation and contributing to global food security.
