The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, while seeking reciprocal political cooperation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The State Chairman of the PDP and Deputy Governorship Candidate for the 2027 Abia governorship election, Elder Amah Abraham, announced the party’s position on Thursday in Umuahia during the inauguration of the Abia State Presidential Campaign Committee (PCC) for Tinubu’s re-election.
Amah, who spoke on behalf of the PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, and the party leadership and members in the state, said the decision was in line with the National Rainbow Coalition initiative championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.
He explained that the party’s support for Tinubu was driven by the need for political cooperation and the promotion of Abia’s collective interests beyond partisan considerations.
However, he emphasised that the arrangement must be guided by equity, fairness, mutual respect and reciprocity, urging the APC leadership and stakeholders in Abia to reciprocate the PDP’s support at the national level through a mutually beneficial political understanding in the state.
The PDP chairman clarified that supporting Tinubu’s presidential ambition did not amount to abandoning the party’s governorship ambition or political identity in Abia, stressing that the party remained committed to strategic alliances that would strengthen its prospects in the 2027 governorship election.
He also expressed confidence in the National Rainbow Coalition, describing it as a platform for fostering cross-party understanding, building political alliances and accommodating the interests of participating stakeholders.
Amah reaffirmed the Abia PDP’s readiness to engage constructively with political parties and other stakeholders towards building a stronger, more competitive and accountable leadership in the state.
