Again, Abia Teachers Protest Non-Payment Of Salaries
A group of Teachers, under the aegis of “New Teachers from Obi Ngwa Local Government”, Wednesday, staged a peaceful protest within Aba Metropolis, with a brief stop at the premises of Magic FM, Aba over unpaid salaries by the leadership of Obingwa council.
They said they were employed in October 2022 but were not paid December 2022 salary.
According to them, while discharging their duties diligently, they observed that there had been occurrences of skipped salary payments which has raised suspicion among the teachers in the zone, especially with the fact that their counterparts from other local governments had been paid.
While speaking, Mrs. Chibuzor Esther, New teachers head of administration said: “we have been employed since October 2022 but have not received our December 2022 salary which happens to be the criterion for further payments and we were told that our salaries were suspended although we have obtained our verification and Social Insurance number, SIN. We are beckoning on the Governor to have compassion on us as well as ask Obingwa heads what happened to our salaries”.
Also speaking, Mrs. Chioma Ogbonna said: “we started work, when we were taken with other Local Government Aba North and Aba South they have received their salaries and their arrears, but we haven’t received ours as we have been working and also discharging our duties. Even if something happened, Obingwa heads should be held responsible”.
As at the time of filing this report, efforts to speak with the Obingwa authorities proved abortive as calls to the chairman of the council did not go through.
