The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has released the names of 16 officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria indicted by a Special Investigative Panel over allegations of serious misconduct, including claims linked to activities considered prejudicial to national security.
The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed on Monday that the panel had concluded its investigation and determined that the affected officers have cases to answer. He stated that they will face a military Court Martial in line with established procedures and existing regulations guiding the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Major General Uba explained that the investigation reviewed the conduct of the officers and identified actions described as inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of military personnel. He emphasized that the process is strictly an internal disciplinary measure aimed at preserving institutional integrity, cohesion, and operational effectiveness.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain committed to professionalism, loyalty to constituted authority, and strict adherence to the Constitution,” he said, adding that due process will be observed throughout the proceedings.
According to the DHQ, the Special Investigative Panel was constituted to examine allegations of misconduct and related concerns. The military authorities reaffirmed that the Armed Forces remain apolitical and fully committed to democratic governance.

Most of the officers are drawn from the Infantry, Signals, and Ordnance Corps, while others serve in the Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force.
The DHQ noted that the outcome of the Court Martial will determine further actions in accordance with military justice procedures.
