The 45th birthday celebration of businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Chima Desmond Anyasọ, took a humanitarian turn on Monday as he visited the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) School of Nursing, Aba, where he donated bags of rice, cash gifts, and wrappers to students of the institution.
The visit, described as heartwarming and inspiring, was Dr. Anyasọ’s way of giving back to a community that shaped his early years.
In his remarks, the celebrant expressed gratitude to God for life and the opportunity to share his special day with aspiring healthcare professionals.
“This visit is not meant to be elaborate. I just wanted to mark my birthday with you all. God has given me the resources and the opportunity to give back, and I’m here today because of that,” he said.
Reflecting on his roots, he added:
“I was born and raised in Aba. I always make it a point to return home on days like this. If Aba could produce me, then Aba can produce many more great people, including all of you. Nurses are the heartbeat of healthcare — you care, you serve, and you save lives. Your reward may be in heaven, but you deserve to enjoy the fruits of your labour here on Earth too.”
Dr. Anyasọ encouraged the nursing students to stay focused and take pride in their profession, stressing that “there is dignity in labour and the work of nurses matters deeply.”
Earlier, the Head of Department of Nursing, Mrs. Nwaeze Obinna Silverline, warmly welcomed the philanthropist and commended him for remembering the institution on his special day.
“We are grateful for this visit, and we pray that God continues to bless you with good health and wisdom,” she said, while also highlighting some of the challenges facing the school.
The event was marked by joy and appreciation as students, staff, and well-wishers celebrated with Dr. Anyasọ in what many described as a thoughtful and impactful gesture.
