Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s resilience and alignment with President Bola Tinubu, assuring residents that the state will “finish strong” despite ongoing political challenges.
Governor Fubara gave the assurance while speaking at the 2026 New Year State Banquet held at Government House, Port Harcourt. He said his administration has emerged stronger and more focused after navigating difficulties in the past year, attributing its stability and progress to faith, perseverance, and collective support.
According to the governor, the presence of prominent political leaders at the banquet underscored firm backing for both the Rivers State Government and the Federal Government led by President Tinubu. Among the dignitaries in attendance were former Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara; former Minister of Transportation, Alabo Abiye Sekibo; and former Governor of Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia.
“The distinguished leaders who sat with us today signal their firm support not only for this administration but also for President Bola Tinubu,” Fubara said.
Addressing critics of his government, the governor employed a metaphor to emphasize confidence in his administration’s direction. “The only reason a dog barks is when it does not understand. We understand, and governance will continue at full force,” he stated.
Reflecting on the outgoing year, Fubara acknowledged that 2025 was marked by significant challenges but maintained that those experiences ultimately strengthened his leadership. He described 2026 as a year of recovery, consolidation, and accelerated development for Rivers State.
“Our path is clear. We will regain all lost crowns. It is only a matter of time and speed,” the governor said, calling on citizens to remain united, committed to truth, and supportive of government efforts.
In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, described the banquet as a moment of thanksgiving, reflection, and unity. He noted that the gathering of political leaders, traditional rulers, and lawmakers symbolized peace, collaboration, and renewed commitment to aligning state policies with federal priorities.
Former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, also stressed the importance of state–federal cooperation, noting that Rivers State has historically recorded greater progress when working in harmony with the Federal Government. He described Governor Fubara as a unifying figure whose leadership would position the state to benefit from ongoing national reforms.
Lawmakers, including Hon. Awaji-Inombek Dagomie Abiante, echoed the call for unity and collective responsibility, describing the year ahead as one of restoration and shared effort toward the development and prosperity of Rivers State.
The event, which featured cultural performances highlighting the state’s rich heritage, ended with renewed political commitment to peace, development, and support for the President, reinforcing Rivers State’s resolve to move forward with stability and purpose.
