Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced that the ongoing Elele–Umudioga–Egbeda–Ubimini–Ikiri–Omoku dual carriageway will be ready for commissioning by early May.
The governor made the disclosure on Wednesday after inspecting the 33.5-kilometre project, revealing that the N80.8 billion road is about 90 per cent completed and on track for delivery before the end of April.
The strategic road project, which connects Ikwerre, Emohua, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas, was awarded to Craneburg Construction Company with a 24-month completion timeline.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, Fubara described the project as a landmark achievement of his administration, noting that it reflects purposeful governance and commitment to infrastructure development.
He emphasized the economic and security significance of the road, explaining that it provides critical access to Omoku, a major gas hub, and is expected to boost commercial activities across the region.
The governor also recalled that the corridor was once notorious for kidnapping and armed robbery but noted that ongoing development has significantly improved the security situation.
According to him, enhanced road connectivity will enable faster response by security agencies, thereby reducing criminal activities along the route.
Fubara commended the contractor for adhering to the project timeline and expressed confidence that the road would soon be completed and opened for public use.
He further recalled that the project, flagged off in May 2024, is being funded through the state’s internally generated revenue savings.
