The latest attack on a military formation in Kukawa, Borno State, has exposed the continuing security pressure faced by troops operating in the Lake Chad region.

Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters reportedly attacked the 101 Special Forces Battalion from multiple directions, triggering a fierce confrontation with security forces.

Military authorities said more than 25 terrorists were eliminated during the encounter, while other reports indicated that several soldiers were also killed.

The incident highlights the persistent threat posed by insurgents despite sustained military operations in the North-East.

Security analysts are likely to focus on how insurgents were able to mount a coordinated assault and what measures are required to prevent similar attacks on military positions.
