The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Col. Augustine Okwudiri Akobundu (Rtd), has assured constituents of improved democratic dividends following his emergence as the consensus candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 senatorial election.
Akobundu spoke in Umuahia on Thursday after the conclusion of the party’s primaries, where he reaffirmed his commitment to quality representation and grassroots development across the district.
According to him, his legislative agenda is anchored on effective lawmaking, attraction of developmental projects, oversight responsibilities and people-focused governance aimed at improving the welfare of constituents.
The senator described his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate as a strong indication of the confidence and trust the people have in his leadership style and performance.
He maintained that the widespread support he enjoys stems from the visible projects and initiatives already executed across Abia Central, expressing optimism about securing victory at the polls.
Akobundu further urged party supporters and residents of the district to remain committed and hopeful, assuring them that more developmental projects and impactful representation would follow in the coming years.
Speaking separately, the ADC candidate for Isialangwa North State Constituency, Benneth Emeruwa, said his aspiration is driven by the desire to promote good governance and restore pride in public service through effective representation.
Also, the ADC flagbearer for Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Ejim Chibuzor, promised to deliver purposeful representation capable of advancing development and addressing insecurity in the state through legislative action.
For Isialangwa South State Constituency, Kenya Annaba, founder of the Piper Foundation, said his track record in scholarship programmes, skills acquisition and community projects demonstrates his readiness to serve the people effectively.
Similarly, the ADC candidate for Umuahia Central State Constituency, Godslight Mbakwe, thanked Senator Akobundu and party stakeholders for the opportunity to contest on the party’s platform, pledging to provide dedicated service and positive transformation if elected.
The ADC candidate for Arochukwu State Constituency, Francess Ogbonnaya, also promised to sponsor people-oriented legislation and expand empowerment initiatives targeted at improving the living conditions of residents.
In the same vein, Tabitha advocated for equity and fairness in political representation, insisting that after 24 years of representation by the Abam Clan in the State Assembly, the seat should rotate to other parts of Arochukwu Local Government Area.
