BlueGiraffe has commenced training for teachers selected to work in Abia State’s Smart Schools ahead of the new academic session, with a focus on digital skills and 21st-century teaching methods.
The exercise, held at Community Primary School, Umuomaiukwu, Isiala-Ngwa North Local Government Area, is designed to prepare the teachers for effective blended learning and the use of digital facilities in the Smart Schools.
Speaking during the training, the Managing Director/CEO of BlueGiraffe, Mrs. Orieji Okwara-Emele, said the capacity-building exercise would be sustained through continuous training to keep teachers abreast of emerging technologies and modern teaching practices.

She said the Smart Schools were designed to move learning beyond memorisation by encouraging communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking among pupils.
Okwara-Emele commended Governor Alex Otti for what she described as uncommon commitment to ensuring that Abia children are not left behind in the digital age.
She said the governor had demonstrated an intentional approach to education by providing children with access to the knowledge, skills and technology required to compete with their peers globally.
She also urged parents to ensure that their children attend school regularly and make the most of the opportunities offered by the Smart Schools.

A BlueGiraffe instructor, Victoria Ikedichi, said the training would make teachers sufficiently tech-savvy to maximise the facilities available in the schools.
According to her, teachers would use smart boards and laptops, while pupils would have tablets, with further sessions covering Smart School operations, assessment methods, Learning Management System (LMS), Student Management System (SMS) and other digital tools.
Ikedichi added that pupils would also receive age-appropriate exposure to artificial intelligence as they progress through the school system.
Some of the trainees welcomed the initiative, with Mr. Nwagbara Dike Emmanuel saying the training would strengthen teachers’ ICT skills and make learning easier, faster and more accessible.

Another trainee, Mrs. Ruth Chidiebere Udeonye, described the programme as “massive”, expressing appreciation to God and Governor Otti for the opportunity.
