Vaccine Sales: Rivers Govt Warns Health Workers
Rivers State government has reiterated their commitment towards protecting her citizens from any form of extortion.
The Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr. Kinikanwo Green who stated this recently, warned that any health worker found in vaccines sales or other related activities would be sanctioned.
He further disclosed that the Rota virus vaccine sale in any state-run health facility has been warned with disciplinary action by the Rivers State Government.
Dr. Kinikanwo Green, the executive secretary of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, made the threat during a fact-finding visit to the Obio Cottage Hospital and Model Primary Health Centre in Rumuogba and Rumuokwurusi, respectively.
The fact-finding trip was in response to allegations that during immunizations at the Obio Cottage Hospital and other health centers in the State, vaccinations were allegedly sold to both nursing mothers and pregnant women.
In order to punish individuals involved in the illicit agreement, he claimed that the state administration is committed to finding them.
Green, who called the situation deplorable, added that it could endanger the health of thousands of children.
“Those who are involved in this will be dealt with. It’s unacceptable because we can’t play pranks on our kids’ health.
“We’re going to look into it.This issue cannot be dismissed out of hand, he said.
He claimed that the team was gathering information to confirm the veracity of the rumor.
Green also mentioned the formation of a committee to identify individuals responsible and suggest the proper sanctions.
Green had earlier urged expectant and nursing mothers to report anyone who demands payment for vaccinations while they are receiving them.He said that vaccination was free.
Dr. Stanley Amadi, the medical officer in charge of the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, also spoke out and claimed that the predicament was embarrassing for the council of the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Additionally, he urged the women to report anyone who demanded payment for a vaccination.
