All thirty-eight worshippers abducted during the armed attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke-Isegun, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have regained their freedom five days after the incident.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed their release on Sunday in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaiye.
According to the statement, the successful rescue followed coordinated efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and multiple security agencies, though specific details of the operation were not disclosed.
“After many days of hard work by security forces and government representatives, His Excellency AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON) is excited to announce the freedom of the 38 persons abducted during the attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Eruku,” the statement said.
The governor said the development was largely due to President Tinubu’s “hands-on approach,” noting that the President halted a scheduled trip to the G20 Meeting in South Africa to address the security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi States. He also ordered enhanced security deployment across the affected areas.
The statement further acknowledged the roles played by the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force—which deployed four new tactical teams—and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA).
Governor AbdulRazaq also expressed gratitude to religious institutions, community leaders, and residents of Kwara State for their support and prayers since the abduction.
The victims were released on Sunday, November 23, with their condition yet to be disclosed as of press time.
