Abia PDP Presents Kelechi Anosike to Delegates Ahead of Governorship Primaries

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has formally presented legal practitioner and United Kingdom-based solicitor, Kelechi Anosike, to party delegates ahead of its governorship primary election.

The presentation, which took place at the party secretariat in Umuahia, marked Anosike as the third aspirant to officially join the PDP governorship race in the state.

Speaking during the meeting, the State Chairman of the PDP, Elder Abraham Amah, confirmed that three aspirants had so far declared interest in the party’s governorship ticket, noting that Anosike fulfilled all constitutional and legal requirements before his presentation to delegates.

Amah admitted that the PDP made mistakes in the past but stated that the party had repositioned itself and was determined to correct its shortcomings ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also disclosed that the party had successfully overcome several legal disputes at the Federal High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, adding that the PDP remained united under its national leadership.

According to him, individuals attempting to form parallel party structures had exited the party, while the PDP had regained stability and was fully prepared for future elections.

Addressing delegates shortly after his presentation, Anosike declared his intention to rebuild Abia State through holistic development, economic revitalisation, youth empowerment and civil service reforms.

The Ohuhu-born legal practitioner said his ambition was driven by a desire to improve the lives of Abians and reposition the state for sustainable growth.

“Never again will any Abian go home hungry. We will return to the farms, create food and ensure families can feed themselves,” he said.

Anosike, who hails from Ohuhu in Umuahia North Local Government Area, said he began his education in Okoko Item, Bende LGA, his mother’s hometown, before studying Law at Abia State University.

He later moved to the United Kingdom where he obtained a Master’s degree in Petroleum Law and Policy as well as a PhD in Property Law and Mortgages. He also qualified as a solicitor in the UK after being called to the Nigerian Bar.

The governorship aspirant stated that his law firm had grown into one of the leading firms in Africa within its area of specialization, handling complex corporate systems and reviving struggling companies.

“They call me a professor because I profess knowledge and wealth. I am a wealth creator. I see opportunities where others do not, and that is what we want to bring to Abia State,” he stated.

Anosike criticized what he described as excessive concentration on road infrastructure by the current administration while neglecting other critical sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, security and workers’ welfare.

“Governance goes beyond roads. If you truly want to help a state, you must pursue holistic development,” he added.

He further lamented the rising cost of living in the state, describing Abia as one of the most expensive states to live in Nigeria.

According to him, poor circulation of money within the economy had contributed to inflation and hardship among residents.

“We need to revive the economy, inject funds into the system and improve living conditions for the people,” he said.

On workers’ welfare, Anosike promised improved conditions for civil servants and pensioners, including the introduction of a “Civil Service Care” initiative that would provide subsidized healthcare, with government paying 70 percent of medical bills while workers cover the remaining 30 percent.

He also unveiled plans for a “Pension Plus” programme aimed at improving the welfare of retirees.

The PDP aspirant further emphasized the need for modern youth empowerment programmes driven by technology and innovation rather than reliance on motorcycles and tricycles.

“We will create ICT-based empowerment programmes where our youths can work remotely for foreign companies and earn in pounds and dollars,” he said, citing Kenya as an example of a country investing in digital opportunities for young people.

Anosike also expressed concern over the state of the judiciary in Abia, alleging that judicial workers were on strike over unpaid salaries while many awaiting-trial inmates remained in correctional facilities without trial.

“This government will have a human face. People must stay alive to enjoy infrastructure. Governance is about compassion, welfare and care,” he assured.

He urged PDP delegates and stakeholders to support a candidate capable of winning both the party primary and the governorship election, insisting that the PDP needed a fresh face in Abia’s political leadership.

“We are not in this race by mistake. We are prepared to run and prepared to win,” Anosike declared.
