Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, is set to commission 11 major infrastructure projects across the state between August 17 and 28, 2026, as part of his administration’s drive to expand infrastructure and improve public services.
The projects, located across several local government areas, include roads, bridges, hospitals, educational facilities and other critical infrastructure.
The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, disclosed the commissioning schedule during a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Wokoma said the exercise would begin on August 17 with the Buguma-Degema-Abonnema Road, linking communities in Asari-Toru, Degema and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas.
The Egwi-Afara-Mba Road in Etche will follow on August 18, while the Capt. Elechi Amadi Polytechnic Entrepreneurship Centre/Engineering Faculty Building in Rumuola, Obio/Akpor, will be commissioned on August 19.
On August 20, Fubara will inaugurate the Elele-Egbeda-Omoku Dual Carriageway, which cuts across Ikwerre, Emohua and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government areas.
The New Zonal Hospital, Omoku, is scheduled for commissioning on August 21.
After a two-day break on August 22 and 23, the exercise will resume on August 24 with the inauguration of the Omademe Internal Roads in Ikwerre.
The New Air Force Base Runway in Port Harcourt will be commissioned on August 25, followed by the Agba-Ndele Road and Bridge in Emohua on August 26.
Two healthcare facilities—the New Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital and the New General Hospital, both in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor—are scheduled for commissioning on August 27.
The commissioning programme will end on August 28 with the inauguration of the Bonny National Grammar School in Bonny Local Government Area.
Wokoma said the projects demonstrated the administration’s commitment to ensuring that government investments produced tangible benefits for residents across the state.
He added that the government remained focused on spreading development across the 23 local government areas through strategic investments in infrastructure and public services.
The SSG commended contractors, government officials, host communities and other stakeholders for their roles in the execution of the projects.
He also urged Rivers residents to participate in the commissioning ceremonies and support ongoing efforts to promote development, peace and prosperity across the state.
