The Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, has commended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for the comprehensive reconstruction and modernisation of Bonny National Grammar School.

The monarch gave the commendation on Friday during the inauguration of the remodelled, furnished and equipped institution, describing the project as a major investment in education and the future of Bonny Kingdom.

King Pepple said the intervention went beyond the renovation of school facilities, noting that it had restored the dignity and historic legacy of an institution that has contributed significantly to the education and character formation of generations of Bonny indigenes.

He praised Governor Fubara for recognising the importance of human capital development, stressing that Bonny National Grammar School had remained a symbol of academic excellence, discipline and leadership.

Speaking at the event, Governor Fubara said the completion of the project had brought an end to more than 20 years without the commissioning of a major government project in Bonny.

He described the reconstruction as a deliberate effort to restore the status of the historic school, established in 1965, while preparing students to take advantage of emerging economic opportunities in the state.

Fubara noted that the presence of Nigeria LNG Limited and other industries in Bonny made it imperative to strengthen education and equip young people with the knowledge and skills required to participate meaningfully in the evolving economy.

The governor also announced scholarships for Rivers State students who emerged winners in the recent Presidential Debate competition, directing the Ministry of Education to commence the process immediately.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peter Nwagor, said the project demonstrated the administration’s commitment to providing safe, modern and functional learning environments across the state.

According to him, the remodelled school comprises six classroom blocks, modern Chemistry, Physics and Biology laboratories, workshops, hostel accommodation, staff quarters, a sick bay and other supporting facilities.

Also speaking, Amasenibo Emmanuel Green described Governor Fubara as a worthy son of Bonny, commending him for responding to the aspirations of the people through the transformation of the historic institution.
