A young woman, Umuora Mmesoma, has reportedly been killed in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, allegedly by her former boyfriend following the end of their relationship.

Mmesoma was reportedly declared missing on Friday, October 16, 2026, before her body was later discovered under circumstances that have sparked outrage and renewed concerns about violence against women.

According to accounts circulating on social media, the suspect, identified as Chima, allegedly admitted to killing the young woman after she ended their relationship.

In a video circulating online, the suspect reportedly claimed that he killed Mmesoma in his house, put her body in a bag and dumped it at an undisclosed location.

The disturbing incident has drawn attention to the dangers of possessiveness and violence in intimate relationships, particularly when one partner decides to walk away.

Reacting to the development, Dr Uche Nworah, a former Special Adviser on General Duties to the Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, condemned the killing, stressing that no emotional disappointment could justify taking another person’s life.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Nworah described Mmesoma’s death as tragic, noting that she had lost her life for exercising her right to leave a relationship she no longer wished to continue.

“Love should never become a death sentence. No disagreement, rejection or heartbreak justifies taking another person’s life,” he said.

He expressed relief over reports that the suspect had been apprehended but noted that his arrest could not restore the life that had been lost.

Meanwhile, the suspect was reportedly handed over to the Anambra State Police Command. However, the command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.

Mmesoma’s death has once again highlighted the need to respect personal boundaries in relationships and address violence against women, especially where rejection or separation triggers threats or aggression.
