Gov Fubara Reaffirms Continuous Support To Families Of Fallen Heroes

The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara has reiterated his commitment towards supporting the families of fallen heroes.

The Governor who disclosed this at the Interdenominational Thanksgiving Mass at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Chaplaincy of the Catholic Institute of West Africa, Port Harcourt, yesterday to mark the 2025 edition of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration, maintained that the welfare of people and the protection of lives and properties in Rivers State remains the top priority of his administration.

The Governor stated that his administration will not only remember the fallen heroes for their sacrificial efforts in defending the unity of Nigeria, but make meaningful contributions and impact on the lives of those they left behind.

As he puts it, “The remembering after this time will not be for just those who lost their lives, but those who are also living will be remembered because of what the government and the good people of Rivers State did for them.”

To that effect, Gov. Fubara vowed to change the narrative, by not just focusing on those who were casualties of the survival of Nigeria, but also to those they left behind who deserved to be remembered to enable them see government to have taken the right decision for their growth and development in the country.

The Governor stated that his administration is anchored on the presence of God for a sense of direction and a strong footing, stressing that most of the promises made to the legionnaires had been fulfilled and assured that more will be done to better their welfare while alive.

“I want to assure you that those things that we have promised which I believe that we have met a good number of them, however, if there is any that we have not done we will do it to make sure that you are not only remembered after your death, while you are alive you also enjoy yourself the right way. ”

Declaring the projection for 2025 as Inclusive Growth and development, especially in human capital development, Gov. Fubara said “the year is a special year because God has assured total peace and development in the state.”

He emphasized that development in the state can only be achieved in an environment of peace, law and order, and urged the security agencies to discharge their duties with a sense of responsibility and professionalism.

He said, “We want to appeal to you, we do not care what means of your appointment, we are not bothered about your ethnic group, what we request from you is to consider the interest of this State which is more important. Know that if anything goes wrong in this State it affects Nigeria.”

Governor Fubara also appealed to religious bodies, particularly the Anglican Community in the State not to allow their pulpits to be used as platforms for abuses and aspersions but sacred grounds to pray for the unity and progress of Rivers State.

In a homily by the Very Reverend Monsignor Dr. Pius Kii, which he centered on Remembrance, he emphasised that it is important to remember people for their deeds and that is why the State and nation are gathered to remember the sacrifices of the fallen heroes and heroines who fought to keep the nation one and peaceful.

According to him, “Today, we remember the veterans who gave their lives to keep us safe and secure. Some of them were injured and suffer from post traumatic disorder. At this prayerful celebration we remember their families.”

He noted by saying that Gov. Siminalayi Fubara will be remembered for all his good works in Rivers State especially in restoring hope to the people through his welfare packages to the civil servants describing it as giving roses to the living to smell while they are alive.

Dr. Kii further elaborated on key actions of the governor that will be remembered to include monumental legacies in infrastructure development, his focus on four key sectors of education, health, agriculture and infrastructure as well as not forgetting the gifts to the Port Harcourt Catholic Diocese during the yuletide. He prayed for the governor assuring him that the hope he has in the Lord will continue to sustain him.
