Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has restated his firm commitment to sustaining peace across the state, insisting that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of conflict.
Speaking on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the commissioning of the 10.7-kilometre Egbeda–Omerelu Road, Governor Fubara said unity remains the bedrock of progress and urged Rivers people to shun disunity for the collective good of the state.
The governor, who received a warm red-carpet welcome from jubilant residents, assured that his administration would continue to spread development projects across all parts of Rivers State. He, however, stressed that sustained peace is essential for continued growth.
Governor Fubara recalled that the project was a promise he made during the inauguration of the first phase of the road about a year ago.
“We made a promise that we were going to do this project, and today I am happy that the government has fulfilled that promise made to the people of Emohua, Egbeda and Omerelu,” he said.
He noted that governance is about service and responsiveness, adding that his administration remains focused on delivering democratic dividends despite challenges.
“We decided to do this because you know where we are coming from, and if we don’t tell our story, many won’t know what we are doing. Even in the face of tribulations, we have remained focused. We will continue to serve our people with respect and honour,” he added.
Governor Fubara also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and pledged to back groups committed to securing the President’s re-election in 2027.
Providing technical details of the project, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Dr. Austin Ezekiel-Hart, said the contract was awarded to Messrs Johnson Roadworks Limited on October 27, 2024.
He explained that the road connects communities in Emohua and Ikwerre LGAs, while also reducing travel time for motorists moving from Ahoada East, Ahoada West and Omoku through Egbeda to Owerri in Imo State.
According to him, the road has a 12-metre clearing width and an 8-metre asphalt pavement made up of a 50mm binder course and a 40mm wearing course. It also includes 24 kilometres of drainage channels with a 1.05m² cross-section to ensure durability and proper water flow.
Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, described the project as a vital link for surrounding communities and commended Governor Fubara for his commitment to continuity and consolidation. He prayed for God’s grace to enable the governor to accomplish even more for the state.
