Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has issued a stern warning to the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, and Chief of Staff, Government House, Barrister Sunny Ewule, cautioning them against abuse of office, indiscipline and participation in unauthorised meetings.
The governor handed down the warning on Thursday during the swearing-in ceremony of the two officials in Port Harcourt, stressing that he would not hesitate to dismiss any appointee whose actions embarrass his administration.
Fubara made it clear that their appointments were not political rewards or avenues for personal influence, but responsibilities designed to strengthen governance and advance the state’s development agenda.
“This appointment is not for political empowerment,” the governor declared. “It is to help this administration succeed. Any action capable of creating problems or embarrassing this government will attract sanctions.”
Addressing Dr. Wokoma, Fubara urged him to deploy his academic and professional experience with objectivity, diligence and integrity in the discharge of his duties. He charged the new SSG to ensure the completion of ongoing and inherited projects in ways that promote sustainable development across Rivers State.
Speaking directly to the Chief of Staff, the governor described the office as one that demands discipline, loyalty and discretion, warning against holding meetings or engaging in political activities without his knowledge and approval.
“You work directly under me as my personal aide. If you begin to hold meetings or involve yourself in nocturnal political activities, I will sack you,” Fubara cautioned.
The governor emphasised that peace, progress and prosperity remain the guiding priorities of his administration, noting that acts of indiscipline or misconduct would no longer be tolerated.
While congratulating the appointees, he expressed confidence in their ability to deliver on their mandates, stressing that loyalty, professionalism and teamwork are expected from all members of his administration.
Fubara also addressed developments in the civil service, directing retired permanent secretaries to submit their handover notes without delay. He disclosed that a review team would be constituted to assess the offices of permanent secretaries as part of ongoing efforts to improve efficiency and reposition the civil service for optimal performance.
Reiterating his leadership philosophy, the governor called for unity and collective responsibility in governance.
“Success achieved collectively is unbreakable. Everyone must contribute their quota for us to make a lasting difference in Rivers State,” he said.
