Bauchi Police Arrest Seven Over Dass K!llings

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with two deaths arising from a violent confrontation between youths in Dass Local Government Area of the state.

The command identified 20-year-old Umar Abubakar of Bayan Fada as the principal suspect, alongside six other suspects aged between 17 and 19.

According to the police, the incident began after the death of a resident of Bundot, which allegedly triggered tension between youths from Bundot and Bayan Fada communities.

The command said youths from Bundot subsequently mobilised and moved towards Bayan Fada, armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, leading to a confrontation near Dass Central Motor Park.

During the clash, a 38-year-old resident of Bayan Fada was reportedly stabbed.

He was rushed to the General Hospital, Dass, and later referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was confirmed dead.

The police said detectives responded swiftly, succeeded in restoring calm and arrested seven suspects allegedly connected with the violence.

Those arrested are Umar Abubakar, 20; Blus Garba, 19; Adamu Muhammad, 17; Hussaini Danjuma, 17; Hassan Danjuma, 17; Shuaibu Sani, 17; and Aliyu Abdullahi, 18.

The command said efforts were continuing to apprehend other persons allegedly involved in the incident.

Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the violence and directed detectives to conduct a discreet and thorough investigation.

He appealed to residents of Dass to remain calm and law-abiding, warning against reprisals and the resort to self-help.

The police assured that those found culpable would face prosecution after the investigation.

The arrests and allegations remain subject to investigation and due process.
