Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2023 general elections, has formally resigned from the party.
In a resignation letter made public yesterday, Anyaso announced that his departure from YPP is effective immediately. He described the decision as a difficult one, citing the time, effort, and resources he had invested in the party since joining.
“This decision did not come lightly, especially considering the time, the work, and resources I have personally invested into the party,” he stated. “I remain deeply grateful for the opportunity to have contested as the Deputy Governorship Candidate of our great party in the 2023 general elections.”
Dr. Anyaso expressed pride in the role YPP played in shaping a new political narrative in Abia State, saying the party inspired a generation of young people to believe in the power of collective action.
“It was an honor to represent the ideals of YPP and to engage with the people of Abia State under its banner,” he wrote. “We inspired a generation of young people to believe that true power rests with the people.”
He also extended appreciation to the party leadership at all levels for their support and camaraderie, and reaffirmed his commitment to public service and national development.
“I remain committed to the ideals of service, progress, and unity, and I look forward to opportunities to work with likeminded individuals for the betterment of our society,” he explained.
Anyaso’s resignation marks a significant development within the YPP ranks, especially in Abia State where he was a prominent figure in the 2023 gubernatorial race. The party has not yet issued an official response to his departure.
