Enyimba FC of Aba’s struggles in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) continued on Wednesday as Sporting Lagos rallied from a goal down to secure a 3-2 victory at the Enyimba International Stadium.
The result marks another home setback for the Aba-based side and leaves the former champions at the bottom of the league table.
Enyimba started brightly and took the lead in the first half through Stanley Dimgba, but Sporting Lagos drew level seven minutes into the second half.
Iyanda Tobi restored Enyimba’s advantage in the 54th minute, converting from the penalty spot.
However, Sporting Lagos responded strongly, scoring twice to overturn the deficit and claim all three points.
The defeat further compounds Enyimba’s difficult start to the campaign, with the club now under increasing pressure to turn its fortunes around.
Reacting to the loss, Enyimba wrote on its official Facebook page: “A disappointing loss.”
The latest setback came barely 24 hours after club chairman and former Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo, appealed to supporters to continue backing the team despite its poor run.
Kanu had urged the fans to remain patient and assured them that Enyimba would bounce back.
