Hon. Kasim Muhammad Ikwa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared winner of the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election, clinching what political observers have described as a decisive mandate.
According to official results released at the end of the poll, Ikwa secured 22,165 votes to defeat his closest challenger from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 17,788 votes.
Other political parties trailed behind in the contest. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) recorded 1,687 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) garnered 1,336 votes.
The outcome is seen as a clear endorsement of the PDP’s grassroots mobilization strategy and campaign message anchored on the slogan, “Power To The People,” which resonated strongly with voters across the area council.
Political analysts say the victory is significant for the PDP at a time when the party has been working to consolidate its structures following a prolonged internal leadership crisis that tested its unity at the national level.
With the Gwagwalada win, party faithful believe the PDP has reaffirmed its grassroots strength and sustained relevance in local government politics, positioning itself for future electoral contests.
