Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has paid tribute to the late Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, describing him as a dignified and peace-loving ruler whose reign left a lasting impact on his people.
Fubara spoke on Saturday during the funeral service held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Opobo, where dignitaries, traditional rulers, and members of the community gathered to honour the late monarch, who died at the age of 83.
The governor said the late king demonstrated patience, resilience, and leadership, particularly during a prolonged succession dispute that lasted over two decades, noting that his calm disposition helped maintain peace in the kingdom.
“He kept his cool and the kingdom was peaceful. I describe him as a man of class and dignity,” Fubara said, adding that the monarch treated all as equals and left behind a legacy worthy of emulation.
Fubara added that King Jaja’s reign would remain a significant reference point in the history of Opobo Kingdom, urging scholars and historians to document his contributions.
Addressing the royal family, the governor called for unity and cautioned against disputes over inheritance, stressing that true success is earned individually and not inherited.
“What you inherit are assets; you don’t inherit success,” he said, warning that internal conflict would contradict the peaceful legacy of the late monarch.
He urged the family to focus on building personal success and long-term values rather than engaging in disputes over material possessions.
Fubara concluded that the late monarch lived a fulfilled life of service, peace, and humility, noting that his legacy would continue to inspire generations within and beyond Opobo Kingdom.
