The Chairman, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo has reiterated his commitment towards reactivating the socio-economic development of the council area.
The Executive Council boss who disclosed this in Port-Harcourt while announcing the reopening of a community market that was previously appropriated during the tenure of former Governor Nyesom Wike.
This, he, maintained would create jobs and boost the socio-economic development of the area.
Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt on friday, Amb Chijioke Ihunwo elaborated on the local government’s decision to return the market to community management, highlighting a pivotal change in governance priorities.
“As a local government, we have also reopened the market that was taken by the former governor of Rivers and returned it to the community,” Ihunwo remarked. He also mentioned the establishment of a Market Committee to oversee its operations.
“They proposed over N500 million to finalize the deal, but I refused. The market is for the people, and they should manage it,” he asserted.
The reopening of the market is anticipated to enhance local trade and revive economic prospects for community members.
