The Kano State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in separate operations linked to alleged armed robbery, illegal firearms trafficking and livestock theft across the state.
The operations, conducted on August 13, 2026, followed intelligence reports and information provided by members of the public, according to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
In one of the operations, police operatives attached to the Dorayi Babba Division intercepted a suspicious parcel at Rijiyar Zaki Motor Park at about 2:30 p.m.
A search of the parcel reportedly led to the recovery of a Tokarev pistol loaded with 48 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
The police said the suspect in connection with the firearm confessed to purchasing the weapon and ammunition from another state before transporting them to another person in a different state.
Investigators are now working to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly involved in the arms supply network.
In a separate operation in Rogo Local Government Area, five suspected armed robbers were arrested at Jajaye Village.
The suspects were identified as Basiru Ibrahim, 25; Saidu Madaki, 23; Sa’adu Ibrahim, 25; Lawan Yusuf, 24; and Muktar Salisu, 21.
According to the police, preliminary investigations linked the suspects to four alleged incidents involving criminal trespass, conspiracy and armed robbery in Jajaye Village and neighbouring communities.
The suspects were also alleged to have confessed to the theft of about five motorcycles and other valuables.
Meanwhile, police operatives in Gaya reportedly recovered a stolen cow and ram during another operation.
The animals were allegedly found in the possession of Karimu Mamman and Madama, both males from Jube Village. Further investigation reportedly led to the arrest of two other suspected members of the alleged livestock theft syndicate.
The command said the suspects arrested in connection with the various cases had been charged to court for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended residents for providing timely information to the police, describing community cooperation as crucial to the command’s recent successes.
Bakori assured residents that the command would continue to strengthen community policing, intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies to combat crime across the state.
He also praised personnel of the Dorayi Babba, Rogo and Gaya Divisions for what he described as their professionalism, dedication and commitment to duty.
