Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, has assured the people of the state of a new era of peace, stability, and development following the end of the six-month emergency rule declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on March 18, 2025.
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Governor Fubara described the past six months as “enormously challenging,” but noted that the state had emerged stronger and wiser from the political crisis that triggered the intervention.
“As your Governor, I chose to cooperate with Mr. President and the National Assembly, guided by my conviction that no sacrifice is too great to secure peace, stability, and progress for Rivers State,” he stated.
Fubara revealed that President Tinubu played a decisive role in brokering peace among all parties, including himself, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He stressed that all sides have now agreed to bury their differences and embrace reconciliation in the overall interest of the state.
The Governor commended President Tinubu for his “fatherly disposition and decisive interventions,” while also reaffirming his personal loyalty and gratitude. He equally acknowledged those who expressed doubts about the peace process, assuring them that “nothing has been irretrievably lost” and that there remains ample room for reconciliation and inclusiveness.
Fubara urged political leaders, stakeholders, and the Assembly to put aside their differences and work for the common good, adding:
“The costliest peace is cheaper than the cheapest war.”
Highlighting achievements of his administration in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other sectors over the past two years, the Governor pledged to focus on completing ongoing projects, reviving the economy, and accelerating development. He also vowed to work harmoniously with the Rivers State House of Assembly to recover lost ground.
Fubara expressed deep appreciation to the people of Rivers State for their patience and resilience during the emergency rule. He also thanked religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society groups, women, youths, and citizens at home and abroad for their prayers and support.
The Governor further extended gratitude to President Tinubu, FCT Minister Wike, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, and members of both the National and State Assemblies for their roles in restoring peace.
Calling for unity, he declared:
“Our diversity is our greatest asset, and our unity the strongest guarantee of our future. We must rise above bitterness and division to secure a peaceful and prosperous Rivers State for all.”
Fubara concluded by dedicating the renewed peace to God and called on all Rivers people, regardless of political or ethnic affiliation, to join hands in rebuilding the state.
