‘You Don’t Know the Law’ — Nnamdi Kanu Confronts Judge

There was heightened drama on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja as the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, engaged in a heated verbal exchange with the presiding judge during his ongoing trial.

Kanu, who has been in custody for years over charges bordering on treasonable felony, suddenly lost his composure in open court, accusing the judge of bias and insisting that the court was denying him his lawful rights.

In a loud and agitated tone, Kanu repeatedly challenged the judge, saying:

“You don’t know the law! Show me the law. Where is the law?”

The courtroom became tense as Kanu insisted that the judge must point to the legal provision preventing him from filing a written address in the matter. His persistent outbursts disrupted proceedings, prompting the judge to call for a temporary suspension of the session.

Security operatives were immediately directed to escort Kanu out of the courtroom in order to restore calm. He was thereafter removed from the court while proceedings briefly halted.

Meanwhile, the Federal High Court has announced that it will deliver its verdict in Kanu’s absence, a development that is already generating strong reactions among observers, legal analysts, and supporters of the IPOB leader.

The dramatic confrontation has further raised questions about the transparency of the trial, the defendant’s rights, and the tensions surrounding one of Nigeria’s most closely watched court cases.
