Abia Lawmaker, Erondu Jnr Deepens Grassroots Impact with Mega Empowerment

Hon. Erondu Uchenna Erondu Junior is a seasoned public servant whose life has been shaped by service. Born into the family of the late Deacon Lazarus NMEREUMANA Erondu of AZUOGWUGWU Umuaro Village in Obingwa Local Government Area, he grew up in a rural community where discipline, hard work, faith, and communal responsibility were core values.

He attended Ntigha-Umuaro Community Primary School and Mgboko UMUANUNU Comprehensive Secondary School, before proceeding to Abia State University, Uturu, where he earned a degree in Estate Management. Driven by a passion for justice and governance, he later obtained a Law degree from the same institution, graduating as the 6th best student out of 236, a remarkable academic feat.

His public service journey includes serving as Chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area in 2003, as a Director on the Enyimba FC Management Board during the club’s historic back-to-back CAF Champions League victories, and later as Personal Assistant to His Excellency, Chris Alozie Akomas PhD, while he served as Deputy Governor of Abia State.

Between 2015 and 2022, he worked closely with former Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu as Senior Special Assistant and later Special Adviser on General Duties, contributing to governance and policy implementation.

In 2023, he was overwhelmingly elected to represent Obingwa West in the Abia State House of Assembly. In the Assembly, he has continued to champion people-focused legislation, including sponsoring three key bills aimed at strengthening development and social welfare.

At the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Jnr has distinguished himself as a proactive legislator and policy advocate. As Chairman of the House Committee on Public Service Matters, he moved the first motion of the 8th Assembly; calling for the suspension of electricity tariff hikes. That bold intervention resonated beyond Abia State, contributing to a National Assembly resolution and presidential approval for a one-year suspension, easing economic pressure on millions of Nigerians.

His legislative contributions also include key people-centered bills, such as:

1. The Maternal Welfare and Infant Health Bill, strengthening healthcare services for pregnant women and promoting exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged zero to six months.

2. The Abia State Corporate Social Responsibility Agency Bill, designed to ensure corporate accountability and structured community development.

3. The Abia State Informatics and Data Coordination Bill, aimed at strengthening governance through data-driven planning and ICT development.

His records of public service stands him out as one who truly cares for his constituents. So far, he has built and handed over 43 houses including Civic and Council Halls. Beneficiaries include: Mrs. Uzoma Enyinnaya of Osaukwu, the Umuokereke Civic Hall, Onuato Civic Hall, Mr. Elijah Emmanuel of Isikor Village, Mrs. Sylvanus Ogbonna of Ekwereahazu village, Mrs Alice Akobundu of Umuhuaba village, Mrs Mercy Nwagwu of Umuokahia 2, Mrs. Charity Samuel Nwankwo of Ehere Village, Mrs. Nwankakwa Nwaozuru of Umuagwada Umuaro village, Mrs. Chinyere Friday of Osus Amaukwa village, Mr. Christian Nwosu of Umuebi village among others.

Apart from solving one of the basic needs of these people, Hon. Erondu Uchenna Erondu Junior had organized and sponsored many medical outreaches as a way of touching lives and meeting the health needs of his constitutuents.

Hon. Erondu Uchenna Erondu Junior has also donated over 60 vehicles, 45 tricycles and motorcycles to youths and women of Obingwa West and beyond.

In the area of agriculture, Hon. Erondu Uchenna Erondu junior who is a successful farmer himself, has within his capacity promoted food security by distributing thousands of bags of fertilizers and improved seedlings to farmers within Obingwa West free of charge.

Rural roads within the constituency have also been receiving attention from the lawmaker representing Obingwa West, Erondu Uchenna Erondu junior. Roads like Ntigha-Umaro Umuanunu Rd, Umuopara-Umunkiri road, Azuogwugwu Ntigha- Umaro road have all been graded by the lawmaker.

In the area of education, so many students have benefited and are still benefiting from his scholarships. He has also sponsored free pJAMB and WAEC registrations for hundreds of candidates.

The Member representing Obingwa West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Honourable Elder Erondu Uchenna Erondu Junior is set to empower his constituents in what is being described as an unprecedented and sustainability-focused empowerment programme, scheduled for Friday, 30th and Saturday, 31st January, 2026.

Unlike conventional empowerment schemes, this initiative is deliberately structured to ensure long-term financial independence, job creation, skills development, and improved access to education and healthcare for beneficiaries across Obingwa West.

The empowerment programme builds on Hon. Erondu’s proven track record of empowerment, with dozens of individuals, churches, and community groups previously benefiting from vehicle and equipment support, many of which remain in productive use today.

Beyond politics, Hon. Erondu is an ordained Elder of the United Evangelical Church, a devoted husband to Deaconess Queenet Ginikanwa Erondu, and a proud father of four. Faith, family, and community remain central to his leadership philosophy.

The reason why he is not far from his people and his people always identify with him. During the yuletide, Hon. Erondu Uchenna Erondu received and hosted Obingwa West Stakeholders, PDP members from Obingwa West PDP LG and Ward chapters, Igodo Igwe Foundation, LGA and ward, PDP United Forum, Obingwa LGA and ward and Obingwa stakeholders.

For many constituents, this empowerment programme represents more than assistance. It is a clear statement of responsive leadership, sustainability, and genuine commitment to grassroots development
