It was a moment of pride, gratitude and reflection in Ogbogu as the outgoing youth leader, Amb. Messiah Ogu, officially handed over leadership to Mr. Christian Nwagweti, bringing to a close a four-year administration that began on February 12, 2022.
The colourful handover ceremony drew members of the community, youth stakeholders and beneficiaries of various empowerment initiatives implemented during the outgoing administration.
In his address, Amb. Ogu expressed deep appreciation to the people of Ogbogu for the opportunity to serve, noting that his administration remained committed to people-oriented leadership, service and development from its inception.
“Today makes it exactly four years in office, and we have successfully handed over. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our people,” he said.
He highlighted education as one of the defining pillars of his administration. According to him, four university students were awarded full scholarships, while 110 secondary school students received sponsorship support. In addition, 600 students benefited from the distribution of writing materials, and free JAMB registration was provided for students across Egi communities. IT spaces were also facilitated for students in need, ensuring that no willing learner in Ogbogu was left behind due to financial constraints.
Beyond education, the administration invested significantly in human capacity development. Four youths were fully sponsored for professional skill acquisition training at JC International, with all expenses covered and internationally recognized certificates guaranteed. The leadership also facilitated employment opportunities for 80 indigenes, many of whom are now economically self-reliant.
On infrastructure and environmental development, several visible projects were executed across the community. These included drainage cleanup exercises, the cleanup of the New Elf Road waste dump, maintenance of the OYM Secretariat and the Ogbogu football field, and the acquisition of a cutting machine to support community activities. A signpost project was also introduced to enhance community structure and identity, while the annual Inter-Family Football Programme was sustained to promote unity and youth engagement.
Amb. Ogu further noted that governance under his tenure was strengthened through proper administrative organization, effective information dissemination, transparent fund management, constitutional development, promotion of peace and security, and awareness campaigns against vandalism.
In his parting words, he advised the incoming leadership to embrace patience, humility and teamwork in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“What leads one is patience and humility. Have a listening ear. Seek advice. Do not conclude alone. Use collective effort and teamwork to achieve your goals,” he counselled.
Commenting on the tenure of the outgoing youth leader, Mr. Chibuzor Ogwe applauded Amb. Ogu for what he described as an innovative and impactful administration. He noted that the past four years were marked by purposeful leadership, creativity and measurable progress in youth empowerment and community development.
With the formal handover to Mr. Christian Nwagweti, a new chapter begins for Ogbogu youth leadership. However, the outgoing administration leaves behind a legacy of educational support, empowerment initiatives and community-driven projects that have laid a solid foundation for sustained growth and unity.
