A relationship coach and senior pastor of David’s Christian Centre, Kingsley Okonkwo, has advised men to prioritise financially responsible partners when considering marriage, warning against relationships built on total dependence.
Okonkwo made the remarks in a series of posts on social media, where he expressed concern over what he described as growing disinterest in marriage among men. According to him, many now view marriage as a financial burden rather than a balanced partnership.
He urged men to set clear standards in relationships, emphasizing the need to choose partners who can contribute meaningfully to a shared future.
The cleric argued that the prevalence of financially dependent relationships has contributed to declining enthusiasm for marriage, as some men feel overwhelmed by the expectation to bear all financial responsibilities.
Okonkwo also criticised societal norms that place the entire economic burden of relationships on men, describing such expectations as harmful and inconsistent with biblical principles.
He further encouraged women to be financially independent, suggesting that mutual contribution would promote healthier and more sustainable relationships.
In addition, he cautioned men against intentionally choosing financially vulnerable partners as a means of exerting control, noting that such dynamics are detrimental to long-term stability.
The pastor maintained that fostering partnerships based on shared responsibility and financial balance would strengthen relationships and promote mutual respect.
