The traditional ruler of Yelwata community in Benue State, HRH Kumaga Jor, has called on the United States government to fast-track efforts aimed at addressing ongoing insecurity in parts of Nigeria.
Speaking with journalists in Makurdi on Thursday, the monarch welcomed recent comments by US President Donald Trump expressing concern over violence affecting Christian communities in the country.
Jor referenced the June 2025 attack on Yelwata, during which scores of residents were killed and displaced in suspected armed herders’ violence. He said the continuing attacks in the state had left many communities deserted, with displaced residents now living in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
He urged the US to act swiftly to support efforts toward restoring peace and security, saying lives and livelihoods continue to be lost to recurring violence.
“We have suffered greatly. Many villages have been attacked and people forced out of their ancestral homes,” he said, expressing hope that international attention would help accelerate interventions.
The monarch also appealed to Nigerian authorities to strengthen security deployments and ensure displaced residents can safely return to their communities.
