Gov Fubara, FRSC to Partner on New System to Curb Car Theft in Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says his administration is working with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to develop a security system aimed at tackling rising incidents of vehicle theft in the state.

The governor gave the hint on Thursday while receiving the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, at Government House, Port Harcourt. Mohammed was in the state to seek continued government support for the agency’s operations.

Fubara said the state government, through the Ministry of Transport, is developing a framework that will enable collaboration with the FRSC to track vehicles operating within Rivers State, particularly commercial ones.

“We are working on something to help in terms of security, especially to reduce car theft in the State,” he said. “When car theft is reported, the Road Safety Corps will be able to help track the vehicle. Very soon, the appropriate ministry will reach out to you.”

The governor acknowledged FRSC’s commendation of his administration’s support toward traffic management and the welfare of corps officers. He also assured that requests made by the Corps Marshal — including vehicle support and accommodation for the sector commander — would be addressed.

Commending Mohammed for improving public engagement and enlightenment efforts of the agency, Fubara noted that interactive, practical solutions, rather than theoretical ones, are needed to address Nigeria’s challenges.

“We are all working for one purpose — making Nigeria great,” he added.

Earlier, Mohammed praised Fubara for notable interventions in support of FRSC operations in the state, describing him as a “global brand with a global mind.” He appealed for continued assistance, particularly in logistics and accommodation, to enhance road safety and emergency response capacity in Rivers State.
