The Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Birnin Kebbi, has disclosed that it has successfully treated, cured, and discharged more than 500 cancer patients, reaffirming its growing capacity in managing one of the world’s most threatening diseases.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Aliyu Hamza Balarabe, made the revelation when he received the wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasiru Idris, who led participants to the facility as part of her ongoing “Walk Away Cancer” awareness rally in Birnin Kebbi.
Dr. Balarabe stressed that cancer should no longer be seen as a death sentence, noting that the hospital’s record demonstrates the effectiveness of early diagnosis and modern oncological care.
> “We have treated, cured, and discharged more than 500 cancer patients. This achievement reinforces the message that cancer can be defeated, especially when detected early,” he stated.
The CMD urged members of the public to stop ignoring symptoms or delaying medical evaluation, emphasizing that early presentation significantly increases the chances of survival.
He explained that many of the successfully treated patients benefited from prompt medical intervention, proper diagnosis, and structured treatment plans administered by qualified specialists at the hospital.
> “People should visit the hospital once they notice unusual symptoms. Early diagnosis allows doctors to apply the right treatment at the right time, giving patients the best possible chance of recovery,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Governor’s wife commended the hospital’s efforts and reaffirmed her commitment to championing cancer awareness campaigns across Kebbi State. She noted that the fight against cancer requires a combination of public enlightenment, early screening, and access to quality treatment.
The “Walk Away Cancer” campaign aims to strengthen public knowledge on cancer prevention, encourage routine screening, and support patients undergoing treatment.
With its latest milestone, FTH Birnin Kebbi has positioned itself as one of the leading cancer care centers in the North-West, offering renewed hope to patients and families battling the disease.
