Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has fixed March 2026 for the completion and inauguration of the 13.5-kilometre Oyorokoto road in Andoni Local Government Area, a strategic project linking the popular Oyorokoto beach to newly discovered Atlantic waterfronts.
Governor Fubara announced this on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, while inspecting the coastal corridor at the Atlantic shoreline, describing the project as a major gateway to unlocking the State’s blue-economy potential.
Despite harsh weather conditions, the governor undertook the tour, explaining that the road, originally designed to terminate at Oyorokoto beach, was extended after a fresh tourism site was identified along the Atlantic front.
“This is the pathway to the blue economy,” he said. “Oyorokoto beach is already a renowned tourist destination, but when we discovered another beautiful oceanfront ahead, we knew we shouldn’t limit the project. We intend to harness this coastline and build economic activities around it.”
Fubara commended the contractor, MCC, for progress made despite challenging terrain and expressed confidence in meeting the project delivery timeline. “From what we have seen, MCC is doing well. By March next year, we should be back to commission this project,” he assured.
On his return from Andoni, the governor also stopped at the Kalaibiama–Epellema road in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area to inspect ongoing piling works for the Epellema river-crossing bridge, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strategic infrastructure across riverine communities.
