Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday joined his Bayelsa State counterpart, Douye Diri, to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a one-day state visit to Bayelsa State.
The presidential visit featured the inauguration of four major projects executed by the Diri administration, including a 60-megawatt gas turbine power project designed to enhance electricity supply and stimulate economic growth in the state.
After returning to Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara proceeded to Beth-El Anglican Church in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area, where he joined family members, political associates and well-wishers at a solemn service of songs in honour of the late Senator Barinada Mpigi.
The memorial gathering was marked by reflection and tributes celebrating the life and legacy of the former lawmaker who represented Rivers South‑East Senatorial District.
Speaking at the event, Governor Fubara described the late senator as a principled and straightforward leader who remained committed to the welfare of his people throughout his public service.
“I had an engagement in Bayelsa, an event beyond my control, but what is most important is that I am here to pay my last respects to a senator who represented my senatorial district,” the governor said.
He added that while memorial gatherings provide comfort to the bereaved, only God can truly console the family and fill the void left by the late senator’s passing.
Reflecting on the inevitability of death, Fubara noted that although many aspects of life are within human control, death remains the ultimate end that no one can alter.
The governor reiterated that Senator Mpigi’s legacy of service, courage and integrity would continue to inspire many, stressing that his contributions to public life would not be forgotten.
