Two suspected kidnappers have been killed by local hunters in Kano State, with a ₦10 million ransom recovered following the release of a man held captive by the gang.

The Kano State Police Command said the incident occurred after three suspected bandits collected the ransom for the release of 45-year-old Kabiru Aliyu, a resident of Falgore Village in Doguwa Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Aliyu was abducted on September 11, 2026, and spent several days in captivity before regaining his freedom.

The statement said the suspects emerged from Falgore Forest around midnight to collect the ransom. They were subsequently ambushed by local hunters, known as Yan Bula, while returning to their hideout.

Two of the suspects were killed during the encounter, while the third escaped with gunshot injuries, the police said, adding that the entire ₦10 million ransom was recovered.

One of the deceased suspects was identified as Dogo Isah, a commercial motorcycle rider from Maigwanda Village in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Preliminary investigations suggested that the suspects might have travelled from the community before the incident.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the hunters for supporting security operations against kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes under Operation Kukan Kura.

He directed the area commander, divisional police officers and tactical teams to intensify operations in Falgore Forest and surrounding communities to track down the fleeing suspect and recover any weapons used by the gang.

The command confirmed that Aliyu had undergone medical examination and debriefing before being reunited with his family.

It reiterated its commitment to combating criminal activities and protecting residents across the state.
