Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has been declared winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, securing a second term in office after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner in the early hours of Sunday after the collation of results from the state’s 30 Local Government Areas.
The State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, announced the final result at the INEC Collation Centre in Osogbo.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes, giving the incumbent governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
The result showed a closely fought contest between the two leading candidates, with Adeleke winning 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji prevailed in 11.
The election, held on Saturday, August 15, attracted 15 political parties and followed months of intense campaigning across the state. Security was also heightened ahead of and during the poll amid political tensions and allegations exchanged by the major parties.
With the declaration, Adeleke retains the Osun governorship and is set to continue his administration for another four-year term.
The outcome also represents a significant political victory for the Accord Party, as Adeleke successfully defended his seat against the APC challenger in a contest widely regarded as one of the major political tests ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC’s declaration brings the 2026 Osun governorship election to a formal conclusion, subject to any legal challenges that may arise from the contest.
