Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed that education infrastructure will remain a top priority in the Rivers State 2026 budget, despite prevailing challenges confronting the state.
The governor made this known on Monday, December 1, 2025, while addressing the 123rd and 124th combined quarterly general meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers at the Council Secretariat.
He commended the traditional rulers for their sustained support in promoting peace and development, urging them to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing security concerns, particularly in boundary communities. He encouraged them to collaborate more closely with local government chairmen and security agencies to safeguard lives and property.
“I thank you again for your support and for understanding your fatherly role. One of your key responsibilities is to help bridge gaps during crises and ensure peace. Thank you for making sure peace continues to reign in Rivers State,” he said.
Governor Fubara emphasized that his administration’s core vision centres on ensuring safety and strengthening investment confidence, which he said has continued to attract investors to the state. He highlighted ongoing improvements in healthcare, noting the visible progress at the Bori Zonal Hospital and assuring that the Omoku and Ahoada Zonal Hospitals will be commissioned before year-end, while Degema Zonal Hospital is already 80% completed.
The governor also debunked media reports claiming that 10,000 jobs were tied to the 2025 budget, describing them as misleading. He clarified that employment in the state will be based strictly on need, not political considerations.
According to him, the 2026 budget will make provisions for job creation and the rehabilitation of dilapidated schools, following earlier investments in roads and the health sector.
He assured the traditional rulers that their concerns would be addressed, and urged them to adopt a strong, unified position that will further strengthen the state.
Earlier, Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty Eze Chike Amadi Worlu-Wodo, praised Governor Fubara for providing financial support for the meeting and for fostering peace and development across the state. He noted that the governor’s leadership had restored “the harmonious and peaceful coexistence Rivers people yearn for.”
Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Charles Amadi, also expressed appreciation to the governor and the council for a successful end-of-year meeting, commending the monarchs for their commitment to sustaining peace across the state.
