President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of four ambassador-designates to key diplomatic missions, drawn from the 68 nominees earlier confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.
This was contained in an announcement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga and made available via his verified Social Media handles today on January 22, 2026. Among those posted is Ambassador Ayodele Oke, who has been designated as Nigeria’s Ambassador to France, while Colonel Lateef Are (rtd.) has been confirmed as the Ambassador-designate to the United States of America.
Also approved is the posting of Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, a former Nigerian envoy to South Korea, as the High Commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom, one of Nigeria’s most strategic diplomatic partners.
In addition, Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, former Governor of Kebbi State, has been appointed Ambassador-designate to Turkey. The posting comes ahead of President Tinubu’s scheduled state visit to Turkey next week, underscoring the administration’s focus on strengthening bilateral relations with Ankara.
In a formal memo addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Tinubu directed the ministry to commence necessary diplomatic processes by officially notifying the governments of the affected countries, in line with established international diplomatic protocols.
The postings mark the first phase of ambassadorial deployments following the Senate’s confirmation of the nominees, as Nigeria moves to fully activate its diplomatic missions abroad.
