A two-time Commissioner in Abia state Hon. Tony Nwamuo Esq., has risen in strong defence of former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Ph.D (CON), cautioning critics against dragging the elder statesman into what he described as politically motivated controversies on social media platforms.
In a press statement entitled: “My people, my people!! In Defence of Legacy: Statement made on Senator Adolphus Wabara Ph.D (CON)”, the illustrious Ndoki son expressed concern over what he called deliberate attempts by some individuals and influencers on Ukwa and Ndoki social media platforms to disparage the reputation of the former Senate President.
According to the Community leader, Senator Wabara remains an accomplished elder statesman of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, whose record of service spans the legislature, diplomacy, administration and diaspora engagement.
In his words: “Distinguished Senator Adolphus Wabara is a former Senate President and a man of vast legislative, diplomatic and political experience whose contributions to nation-building and leadership development remain indelible.”
The legal luminary lamented what he described as a growing culture of disrespect and revisionist narratives targeted at respected leaders from the area, noting that the people of Ukwa; particularly Ndoki, are traditionally known for honouring legacy and respecting elders.
“We must remind ourselves that honour must be given to whom honour is due. Politics of calumny, character assassination and revisionism against our revered leaders does not advance our collective interest. Rather, it erodes our values, unity and moral standing,” he said.
The Ndoki-born technocrat also stressed that while holding public office holders accountable is a democratic right, such engagements must be constructive and not degenerate into personal attacks against elderstatesmen such as Distinguished Senator Wabara, according to him, never instigated the issues being debated.
He added that respect for elders is not only a cultural virtue but also a moral investment in the future. “When you respect an elder, the younger ones will also learn to respect you. Whatever we do today, we must be guided by posterity,” he noted.
The former lawmaker also referenced Senator Wabara’s recent role as Chairman of the Ukwa-Ngwa reception held on January 30, 2026, in honour of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, describing it as a testament to the high regard the former Senate President commands across Ukwa Land, Abia State and Nigeria at large.
“It is an honour for an Ukwa son to chair such an occasion, especially as the Governor prepares for a return bid in 2027,” Nwamuo said, adding that Wabara’s involvement underscores his continued relevance and standing as a respected leader.
He further advised that defamatory, libellous or disparaging statements against Senator Wabara, including references to his business interests such as Felicia Hotel, should cease immediately, urging detractors to avoid acts capable of blackmail or mischief. He noted that such actions may unintentionally draw issues into a realm no one desires.
“Disagreements in politics are inevitable, but dragging revered elders into partisan mudslinging is not only improper; it is dangerous to our collective conscience,” he stated.
Nwamuo called on youths, political actors and social media influencers to reflect deeply and engage in responsible civic discourse, urging the people of Ukwa to stand on the side of honour and protect their legacies.
“History watches and posterity records,” he further stated.
