Organisers of the Ngwa Day Celebration have unveiled the programme for the 2025 edition, a three-day event celebrating the rich cultural heritage and unity of the Ngwa people.
A release signed by the Chairman of the Ngwa Day 2025 Planning Committee, Dr. Chukwuma Ahiaraumunna Offor (FCA), and made available to newsmen, revealed that the festivities will kick off with the Ngwa Day Rally on Friday, December 26, 2025, starting at Okpuala Ngwa, Isiala Ngwa North LGA, the ancestral capital of Nde Ngwa, and culminating in Aba. The rally aims to mobilize Ngwa sons and daughters, fostering unity and pride.
On Saturday, December 27, 2025, the Ngwa Day Symposium will hold at Hotel Du Golf, 1-3 Margaret Avenue, GRA, Aba, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Themed “NGWANESS, Ụmụnna Ehila” (Collective Progress Lies in Communal Fraternal Bond), the session will bring together intellectuals, cultural custodians, youth leaders, and stakeholders to explore the relevance of Ngwaness in contemporary society.
The grand finale of the celebration will take place on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Ngwa High School, Aba, starting at 12:00 noon. The finale will feature a cultural showcase with traditional dances, masquerades, music, arts exhibitions, community awards, and empowerment sessions. The event will also honor sons and daughters of Ngwa land for their contributions to development and heritage preservation.
According to Dr. Ahiaraumunna, Ngwa Day embodies the ideology of Ngwaness, which emphasizes communal solidarity and prioritizing Ngwa causes over individual interests. He explained that the celebration stems from a resolution during the 50th anniversary of the Ngwa Social Club in 2023, setting 28 December as an annual date to celebrate Ngwa values and heritage while addressing the challenges of modernity and historical disruptions.
“Ngwa Day celebrates the Ngwa spirit of resilience, honesty, hard work, and communal solidarity. This year promises an unforgettable experience showcasing our history, traditions, and cultural richness,” the statement added.
The celebration also aims to promote Ngwa culture and values, foster unity, showcase heritage to a global audience, and support economic development and youth empowerment.
Expected guests include traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders from the diaspora, cultural icons, ambassadors, youth representatives, and friends of Ngwa land.
