Gov Fubara Laments Poor Work on Rivers Road, Mulls Contract Review

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of work on the Abua-Odual/Agba-Ndele/Emohua road project, describing the portion handled by Messrs Stream Nigeria Limited as substandard and below expectations.

Fubara, who embarked on a long walk to inspect the road and bridge on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, said the contractor lacked the capacity to deliver the project, warning that the contract may be reviewed to ensure Rivers people get value for money.

“You can see the level of trekking and maneuvering we did before getting here,” he said. “One of the purposes of our government is to do everything right and get value for money. The contractor handling the road from the bridge to the East–West road is not doing a good job. I am not impressed; it is obvious they don’t have the capacity and I will review the contract.”

The governor, however, commended Setraco Nigeria Limited for the quality of work on the bridge linking Abua/Odual and Agba-Ndele to Emohua, expressing optimism that it would be ready for use before the end of January 2026.

“So far on the bridge handled by Setraco, I am impressed. With the level of work and expertise, I am very sure that before the end of January we might walk through and even drive across,” he said.

Fubara emphasized that the bridge was inherited by his administration, but completed due to its strategic importance in connecting rural communities and reducing travel time to Port Harcourt.

“This bridge will provide easy access for the Abua/Odual people to cross into Agba-Ndele, Emohua and access the East–West road within 10 to 20 minutes. It will drastically save travel time and boost movement into Port Harcourt,” he stated.

The governor added that improved road connectivity is central to his development agenda, noting that the project will facilitate economic growth, especially for agricultural communities that rely on efficient transport for moving goods to markets.

“We are connecting Rivers State tactically. This project links Ahoada-East, Abua/Odual and Emohua. It will boost the economy because agriculture thrives in this area,” he said.

Fubara assured residents of Ahoada and Abua that the deplorable Ahoada–Abua road will be given priority in the 2026 budget.

“We will soon attend to the Ahoada–Abua road, and it will be prioritized in the 2026 appropriation,” he promised.
